I have the chance to get a 1Ds mk2, I have at the moment a 7D and a 40D. I do mostly people and wildlife.

I have read that the IQ from the 1Ds mk2 is second to none but to buy the 1Ds I would need to sell the 7D.

Is it worth it?

From a 7D to a 1DsII, no way, getting very long in the tooth nowadays. 1DsIII maybe.

Thanks for the reply, I wish I could afford a 1ds mk3.

You would miss the 1.6x crop for wildlife, but gain in image quality especially for portraits and landscapes. To be honest, the 1Ds a completely different beast. It depends what lenses you have. 1D will only allow EF lenses

1Ds mk2 has AMAZING IQ, but forget wildlife unless you have 400mm f/2.8 with converters or better 600mm f/4. As far as 40D goes, the big dinosaur completely destroys it in every single way, i've not used 7d though as I have no need

Thanks for all the replys. I hate decisions like this. Lol.

For wildlife the 7D would be my choice but for people I'd go for a 1DsmkII every day of the week. If there was any way you could get the 1D by selling the 40D instead of the 7D it would be a no brainer. The 1DsmkII may well be an old camera but that doesn't stop it from being an extremely good one. It does have some issues (terrible screen, relatively slow right speed and high ISO performance is not as good as more modern models, but still not bad), but the AF is superb and the image quality is the best of all of the DSLRs that I have shot with.
