I thought female Chaffinch but my searches show lots of brightly coloured birds although a similar shape to this one.

Nice close up, looks like a female Chaffie to me ... its the males who have the prettier colours.

Aww! how lovely.
I have quite a few Chaffies visit my garden, and one female always sits on the table for ages without feeding (Im pretty sure its the same one) but I havent been able to get very close yet ... oddly even they pigeons are nervous in my garden! :shrug:
