If you had to start again would you buy the same?

I would probably still gone Canon, and then after that, still the same lenses, with minor exceptions. I know this because i did start again 12 months ago. I sold literally everything apart from a body and started my lenses from scratch, tailored to what i know best and what i need it for.

There's 1 rule, if i want that lens, just save up longer and get it and don't bother in all the inbetweens.

So that means forget your Tamron, Sigma variants, forget your F/4 lenses even, its 2.8 zooms and Primes all the way. L-Glasses in most cases with minor exceptions like 50/1.2 (its no sharper than 1.4 at 1.4 and the 85/1.8, i will get that because it is faster focusing than the 1.2 and i will have the 85/1.2 down the line.

Taking the presumption that the insurance pay out would allow me to buy very same kit; I think I would give-up photography!

The amount of hiding gear, sneaking a new item pass the Ms., explaining why I am selling something and buying another bit (made a good saving here and there), the verbal abuse I've had to tolerate; the endless shopping sprees I've had to endure, as a means to please her after a new lens fell in my lap

I hear you dude!

I have a Canon 450D with an EF-S 55-250mm as my main lens. I'd replace it with a 550D and an EF 70-300mm lens. I've never felt the slightest inclination to defect to Nikon.
