iMac 2 week review

Well i have had my iMac for 2 weeks now and today would be the last chance to take it back for a refund, but i aint gonna! :lol:

As many know i had huge problems getting the Mac Mini up and running which put me off but this iMac has been a dream to set up. I guess i learned allot from setting up the Mac Mini which has been handy when setting up the iMac.

OSX is getting easier to use the more i use it and everything just looks SO nice, all the little icons and the way they behave are so cool.

The screen is the best i have ever seen and i love how sharp it is. It works very well for image editing even though i only have the 20" version and the colours are very realistic. The only thing i don't like is the mighty mouse. It's a bit of a pain to use and quite uncomfortable, i may have to swap it out for a normal mouse soon.

The iMac is faster than any of my programmes and having 4Gb of RAM ensures things run smoothly which they do. I very rarely see the spinning beach ball and as yet the Mac has been faultless, 100%! [touch wood!]

Some of the iLife programmes are limiting like iWeb but there are plenty other progs to use. All other programmes that i have loaded run like silk and even iTunes behaves itself now that i have set it up how i want.

The iMac is a keeper and i love it! So glad i switched and i don't miss my windows machine at all. So 9/10 from me and i just need an iPod to compliment the Mac.
 
'programs' is a windows term - you're on a mac now they're called 'apps' :D

Me to but i guess i learned from it and this was why the iMac was a breeze. Also i think that having an iMac which is something i have wanted for years made me more determined to get it right from the get go. The Mini was always 2nd best.
 
I would have a new mini, deffo - but I'm more likely to get a macbook pro I reckon.

we're in the process of saving for an iMac! I was very pleased with myself the other day - I went in to the apple store here in vegas to get an iPhone cover to go running with and managed to get out without buying one on my credit card, despite the better half telling me to do it!!!
 
You must have super human will. :D They are 'almost' irresistible!

I certainly will, but hopefully not until I have the crisp notes in my sweaty paws!! ;)
 
I took advantage of the recent drop in price on the older model from macwarehouse - got the 4Gb ram upgrade at the same time and installed it before switching it on for the first time. The screen is huge and has managed just about all that I have tried so far (I got the old 3.06 24" model).

Whilst waiting for my CS4 Media and upgrade I downloaded the trial - it looks very different. Seems to work okay though.

Whats with the wired mouse? You get such a short wire I just cannot get comfortable - any Bluetooth recommendations?

My mate had the same issue with his iMac (the secret is to plug it into the USB port on the keyboard ;))

If you want to go bluetooth though, I really like the Apple Bluetooth mouse, but I know others don't, the chances are if you like the ergonomics of the wired one, you will like the bluetooth one.

:amstupid: Never thought of that - indeed did not see a USB port on the keyboard. I think that I am still looking for a bluetooth mouse - but this should delay RSI for a bit longer!

I bought a logitech bluetooth mouse but it's pretty poor. It feels great but fails to work most of the time. I press the 'connect' button on the bottom, wait a few seconds and hey presto it works. Then the next day it won't work and no matter how many times i press the connect button it fails to connect. Very annoying.

Now I have a wired mouse thats too long for the keyboard port and too short for the port on the monitor! Hopefully the wire will flatten shortly!

Thanks for the steer on Logitec mouse - got a model number that I need to put on the avoid list?

Yeah, Logitech V470

I am using it right now just to see if it's going to behave and yet again t doesn't. The pointer on screen has a habit of jumping ahead of itself when moving the mouse. It may be because it's being used directly on the table so i am now using my mouse mat to see if that improves things.

I'll let you know later.

...that seems to be the 'popular' one on eBay - I guess I now know why!

Think I'll get the Apple one at some point in the near future.

I have just thrown my Logitech mouse in the bin as it has consistently failed with different problems. Bloomin junk! I'm never buying logitech again as it isn't the 1st time i have had problems with Logitech. My Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse for my other PC works flawlessly, weird eh!
