I had a message on my Imac last night saying that the disk was nearly full. I though there was about 6GB free before this.

I cleared out and got the free space up to 19.99GB at 18:30 tonight. Now (20:30) it is down to 17.45GB and you can see it decreasing.

I have only been browsing, I have not opened or created any files in the is time.

Any ideas what could be doing this ?:help:

What OS and version are you running? Was a known issue with early version of Snow Leopard. Done an update lately?

It's running 10.5.8

Down to 15.32GB now.

The machine is running very slow as well.

It is usual a very annoying virus, which basically self copies itself over and over again. You need to find a good antivirus and anti spyware software and quickly run a virus scan. Some viruses also work, so that they download content off the internet (to fill up the the harddrive) and therefore it might be running very slow. Run a thorough scan and I would advise you to turn off the internet as well. I have had a few of these viruses before, but I am running the Free version of Avast Antivirus and a thorough scan has done the job every time. Make sure you scan archives as well.

Good luck with sorting it out!
