iMac... Is the GeForce 9400M good enough?

I have decided that I really want to buy a Mac now, weıghıng up the optıons, I thınk the 24" 2.66ghz iMac ıs best suıted to me, ıt wıll maınly be used for processıng photos and recordıng my band (yes I´d have to lug ıt about to where we record, but ıt wouldnt be that often, and all the mıxıng etc... would be done at home)

Im very out of touch wıth computer hardware these days though, ıs the GeForce 9400M a good enough card? My current Dell really struggles now processıng multıple ımages from my 50D (20mb ın raw format) my current PC ıs runnıng vısta and has 2gb of RAM so ıt could be that! Im not a gamer or anythıng, so not worried about ıts performance from that poınt of vıew.

Sorry for the weırd letters, and lack of some punctuatıon, ın Turkey at the moment, and thıs keyboard ıs crazy! lol

Any help apprıcıated.

Dave, Apple graphics cards are usually a good spec, if not gaming-spec. Even the cheapest macs have decent cards that will allow you to do good image work.

Apple are notoriously tight when it comes to stndard RAM levels - it's only in recent years it's got better so it would deffo be best to max out the ram on it. Don't let Apple do it though; they'll charge you double the price. Buy it from www.crucial.com or get some Kingston stuff.
 
A 9400GM is poor for gaming but would be fine for everything else, certainly ok for your use. And specialman is correct about the ram. :)

Yep, it'll be fine. Mine is the same spec as the one you are considering and it runs CS4 with multiple large files open, without any problems. :)
 
I'm running a MacBook Pro, which is not dissimilar to the iMac. 4GB Ram and no problems with CS4 or Lightroom, even with 1Dslll files.
 
Thanks for the help with this, the iMac turned up yesterday!

Lovely machine, just got to get used to the differences :)
