Just bought a Canon 500d and realised that all my saved digital pics have varying file sizes, Having been taken on various previous cameras, I have Elements 2 (i think) is there away to reduce the images to say 10x2 or 8x10 other than one at a time.
If you're talking about producing smaller versions of the pictures, you can download free batch resizers; I got mine from here mihov.com and it works, although there might well be better programs out there.
If you're talking about the aspect ratio of the photos, like some are 4:3 and some are 3:2 then I can't help. But if you're cropping images to make them the same shape, a batch operation wouldn't give you any control over which part of the image you lost.
Not sure if I posed my question correctly, To e-mail one of my pics I used the image re-size and simply chose to save at 10x8 or 8x10 inches, The resultant file size was greatly reduced and as i dont plan to obtain pics greater than these sizes i planned to convert all my pics using this method to save space,This seems to be a good idea but would apreciate idea`s.
The size of the photos is measured in pixels; Google tells me a 500D's maximum is 4752 x 3168. A measurement in inches depends on the dpi (dots per inch) but you could set that to pretty much anything. At 300 dpi that's 15.8 x 10.5 inches, but at 150dpi it's 31.6 x 21 inches. That has no effect on your file size. If you want to reduce the file size you can either make the number of pixels smaller or increase the jpeg compression; I'd do the former as there's no point in having a massive photo with lots of compression.
However, having forked out all that cash for a lovely new 500D, surely you want to take full advantage of the camera's abilities? I really think you should consider more storage - £60 will buy you an external hard drive which will take years to fill.
Edit to add: If you do decide to reduce the pixels and file size, the proogram I linked to will do it.
Seems like I have a bit more studying to do, I have plenty of storage space anyway, I assumed that deciding I didnt need images larger than 10x8 it would be a usefull way to standardise, I dont want to lose anything from the files, Thanks for the reply`s.
