In the market for a new lens

I shoot on a Nikon D700 and D300 and currently use 50mm 1.8, 24-70mm, 2.8 and a 70-200mm 2.8 lenses.

Although quite a lovely repertoire of glass, I still feel there is something missing. Am currently looking at either:

Nikon 85mm f1.8 D AF Lens

or

Sigma 150mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens

or

Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG Macro Lens

or

Nikon 60mm f2.8 G AF-S ED Micro Lens

Has anyone any experience of these lenses, or any thoughts on which to go with. I am aware that a couple of them will not be compatible with my D700 but as I am thinking of macro I am not really sure if it is an issue being limited to only the D300

Any thoughts and advice would be most welcome

All of them are compatible with both your cameras.

The macros make sense,as you have 85mm f/2.8 covered with the 70-200, so there isnt much benefit in 85mm f/1.8.

The rest, basically what macro do you want? Flowers the 60mm, smallish bugs and flowers the 105 or small scared easily bugs the 150.

105mm nikkor (don't need vr although if you can afford it - perhaps lol)
If you are using tubs as well... only a tenner for the cheaper ones...

The 150mm Sigma is an excellent lens and well worth considering if you want to shoot bugs and other mobile small things.

Because its a Sigma, We all know Daugirdas will not let any Sigma lens have a fair chance.

I own the Nikkor and it is a great lens, my daughter was very kindly lent the Sigma at the Exbury meet last year and she got some stunning pictures with it.

I would not hesitate in recommending either lens.

Sorry Sigma 105mm is very out dated and can scare not only bugs but also people away. Noisy-slow AF, and extending front element is a no go for a decent macro. I haven't started about the IQ because it doesn't even matter.
