Anyone know what setting to use for those fangley last-forever-saving-the-planet-light-bulb things? I can't actually get it right with either fluorescent or incandesant? They all seem to have their own tempreature :bang:

tbh, mine are the same, so I just tweak the wb afterwards til I get the result I' after. ;)

does your camera allow you dial in a specific colour temperature? If so try 3500-3200, or you can select a custom temperature by taking a shot of a white piece of paper with the light source falling on it and point your cameras custom white balance setting to that shot. Also if you are not already shooting in RAW, its a good idea to do that as post production fine tuning of white balance is a lot easier.

I think I can - but each one seems to be different! Even the same one is different sometimes - I hate the damned things. I mean, why? Why have a light that only comes on after you've been in the room, dug around in the dark, found what you are after, shinned yourself on the coffee table (again) and gone back out anyway?

Maybe not the answer you want to hear but:

Why not replace the bulb with a "normal" one when taking pics then replace again after.

can your camera do custom white balance, apart from my dlsr's, my Canon A620, A720is, & Pano TZ7, all have this feature, works great, I also used it recently taking photos of snowy scenes, it got rid of the bluey hue, hope this might help :)

Lee Evans @ The O2 said pretty much the same thing!

Have you tried to buy "proper" bulbs lately? Can't get them anywhere, it's almost a black market (see what I did there?) item now.

Camera is a D1x and yes, I can do CWB but as I said, they all seem to have their own temperatures. After a little research it appears this is because the "elements" may be all the same pretty much but the plastic outers are most definitely not.

there you go for being all "green" - like a 11w thingywhotsit bulb wll make a change to global warming whilst our oriental friends are diverting rivers and building power stations each week.....

As said above, best thing is to shoot in Raw and then move the WB anywhere between about 3000-3600 as depending on light bulb / lamp shade / additional lighting, all can affect it.... think the D1X was pre "green lighting"..... :)

Nail on the head there Lynton. I am shooting RAW now mostly with the Nikon but a cwb would make the processing faster as PI allows a quick initial process before loading the main pic.

I do actually have three cwb positions as well as the usual standard ones so could set one for these bulbs - I was just hoping there was an "average" or something!
