In this logo below, I need to have the background transparents, but still keep the white shape in the logo. How do I remove the white background and make it clear? Really stumped here!

if you do that then the white thing in the middle will become transparent as well.

i do this all the time when making icons though, give the background a colour that is different to anything else, then it will work.

It is pretty simple to do this in most tools. Here is how i did it using CS4

- Select File > New
- Change "Background Contents" to 'Transparent' before clicking ok
- Click OK
- Paste your image into the new new image just created
- Use the magic wand tool to select the white area around the image. i.e. select magic wand then click on the white area. Clicking on the white area should select everything that is white around the image. Cut the selection out using Edit > Cut
- Merge the layers and save the image (as a GIF)

As far as i know only GIF images support transparency. I am not sure if you can have transparent images with JPG or any other format.
