Linky to Intels attempt at bringing a useable sized SSHD to market. Very cool but £345

Do you think it will be as quick/slow as CF card pricing to drop?

They are coming down slowly. I have a 128Gb drive in my netbook (that way I am happy checking it into my hold luggage when I fly) and it cost me more than £345!

Nice Paul. Have you noticed a jump in read access speeds like the fanboys are quoting?

Would love to jump to SSHD for reliabilty asap but the cost is prohibitive at the mo.

I've not noticed a great difference tbh - slightly longer battery life but with an Atom processor, I don't think the disc was the weakest link before.

My MBP has a 200Gb 7200rpm HD which gets tooooooo hot. I would love to rip it out and stick an SSD in but there is so much stuff I could get for the same money....... another 24" display for the mac pro, CS5 (soon), a fish eye lens...... etc etc..... So I think I will end up sticking a 500Gb 7200 drive in instead.

Hmpfh. This is my thoughts too. I think they are more something to spec into a new machine rather than upgrade existing for me.

Too right Darren. They are still a lot of squids. I am hoping that they become standard fast - that way the price will drastically drop for buying them as components.

I'm waiting for them to come down in price before I get a new laptop, I want a min 300GB SSD drive in a Macbook Pro, without having to sell both kidneys!
