i,m on internet explorer 9 using windows vista home edition.

cheers mike

Is this a laptop? Does this problem happen after a certain action, e.g. after opening the laptop, or does it randomly happen whilst you are surfing?

When it happens, instead of resetting the router try right clicking on the network icon, and select "Troubleshoot problems"

If this comes up with nothing and doesn't solve the problem, open the Network and sharing center, select troubleshoot problems > Network Adapter > Wireless Network Connection.

Check that you have the latest drivers for your Wireless Card. If none of that works, then you need to give more info.

hi will, no its a pc with a wireless adapter the one on the back with a little aeriel sticking out. its not a location problem as signal strengh is "very good".
also done the repair and the advice is turn off your router for ten seconde etc etc :bang: the pain is it only does it some times not all the time

Have you downloaded the latest drivers/software for your wireless adapter?

Does this problem happen after a certain action, e.g. after opening the laptop, or does it randomly happen whilst you are surfing?

dont know how to check for latest drivers :'( i,m only good at photography:lol: computers are my nemisis  as said above its a pc

The same question still applies. The opening the laptop case is just an example.

Does this problem happen after a certain action, e.g. after coming out of standby, or does it randomly happen whilst you are surfing?

To check for the latest drivers, you will have to go to the manufacturer site of the adapter, go to the drivers section, and find the appropriate model drivers.

You need the make and model of the wireless adapter. That should be written on it.

it happens when i first turn on my computer at start up it will sometimes have no connection, local only. then i go through the repair system and it advises turn off the router. also just checked for updates and it says its up to date. i have the box and it says for windows upto xp i transferred the card to this pc which is running vista but this has only just started happening since i changed to virgin what i dont understand is why its only my pc the son dos,nt have any problems is the card too old?

You may wish to check / change the channel on your router.

Also see if you are running Bonjour on your PC http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000332.htm

This can cause problems on boot, it is also possible to delay startup of Bonjour, rather than getting rid of it altogether

Added - Also, you might want to connect (temporarily) to the router with a cable, this should identify whether is your PC network connection (eg Bonjour) or your wireless connection.

off to check this as bonjour is defo installed on my computer it came with cs3 back in a tick:thumbs:

the files are there but bonjour has been deleted i don,t use it but it has left some files behind that it will not let me remove "your administrator rights etc i thought i was the admin is there a way i can change this to remove these excess files?

What files are not being removed?

I doubt Bonjour is the problem, but you can use Revo Uninstaller to completely remove it.

Have you checked for the latest software and drivers?

When the problem happens, have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting to your wireless network?

The problem not occurring on other computers indicates that your computer is the problem, not the router. Is it not possible to connect your computer to the internet via a LAN cable into the router?

I think I've come across this before. When you changed to Virgin, did you change the router? The way Vista/Win 7 detects whether you are on the same network you were on before is that it analyses the network infrastructure. It basically goes out and looks what is out there connected and uses things like the mac address of the router to know if it is on a local network. Vista is apparently easy to fool that it is on the wrong network and doesn't allow you to access anything.

Are you running the latest software available on the router? Can you put your old router back if you swapped it for the Virgin router?

If that's the cause all that needs to be done is to delete the saved network info and reconnect.

With any of the solutions you won't know if you've fixed it until it happens again.

You say you have reinstalled Bonjour? The aim was not to reinstall bonjour, but to remove the program. Did you use Revo uninstaller for this? Or did you use the method described in the article referencing this?

Have you checked for the latest software and drivers?

Did you change the Router when you changed to Virgin?

To delete the saved connection data, please do the following:

Open the Network and Sharing Center, click Manage Wireless Networks, delete your home networks and any others that you do not need.

Reconnect to your network.

Hopefully it is sorted now.

However, in future if you're asking for tech help with something, could you please kindly answer the questions people ask you? It makes it very difficult to help you if you don't. ;)
