Thinking of getting a tablet of some description. At the moment, I'm leaning towards an iPad2, although I've not discounted the Sony or Motorola Xoom...

One question though - can the SD card reader in the iPad camera connection kit be used for additional storage? Additional mp3's, photos, documents and stuff...
 
Alan's right.

Just tried it including the old trick of adding a camera DCIM folder, but my iPad was having non of it.

Just get the biggest storage you can afford

What I'm after is 3G as well as the WiFi, and my budget is kinda limited to about 500 notes, for which I can get a 16Gb tablet...

Would there be any advantage of the iPad over the Sony (running Android 3.2)? The difference in screen size is marginal, the Sony takes full size SIM cards, the memory card slot works conventionally, you can still get Photoshop Express on Android... At the moment, the Sony looks like it's coming out on top...
 
After a lot of online research I went into John Lewis a few weeks ago with my mind set on a tablet for the wife; either the Motorola Xoom one or the ASUS Transformer one. Had a play on them both and they were quite nice, although the desktops seemed quite cluttered and in general I was a little lost despite being generally quite tech savvy.

I then saw the Sony ones and had a play; they were horrible and jerky. So I headed back to the Motorala and Asus ones to make a final decision when a faint glow caught my eye and I was involuntarily pulled towards it.

It was lovely....so smooth, so clear, so easy to use....so way ahead of the other tablets.
 
I love my transformer and it does everything I want and does it well.

I have managed to get Google music working, so can stream all my music or sync items for offline playing.
 
I went without the 3G and opted for the 64gb ipad, I'm never that far from a wifi connection and i use drop box for most things, so I just grab and drop on the go.
 
I have the ipad 1 and i love it. If you went for theipad 2 it would be a great choice. Having owned mine for a while now i had a look in the shops at some other android tablets. Out of those i was quite keen on the motorola zoom and then the galaxy tab. I think the zoom 2 is coming out soon isnt it?
 
If you have an iPhone then you may not need the 3G version. The iPhone will make a local hotspot and link to the iPad. I'm on Vodafone with the iPhone and they charge about £5.00 for 500Gb per month of data via Hot Spot. If you no longer need the Hot Spot you simply turn it off .Useful as I can also connect with my MacBook as well

John, you have a good point with the WiFi Hotspot - I have that on my HTC mobile with unlimited data from giffgaff, so that might be an option... so I can now afford to go for more internal memory than if I needed the 3G option as well. I know that I can connect to my HTC using my old iPhone 3, so hopefully I'll be able to do that with an iPad 2 if that's the route I go...

Both iOS5 and Android have their pros and cons... but all the reviews I've read still seem to regard the iPad as the benchmark to compare all others against... I'm still slightly perturbed about the lack of SD storage though...
 
Sorted - just got the 32gb iPad without the 3G... Seems well good so far! :thumbs:

Can't agree more you will love it, enable phot streaming if you use a mac and your last 1000 pics will be with you everywhere and that's for free on icloud....
 
Yes

I have the current Transformer and without a doubt it is the best Android tablet
