IQ of EF400mm f2.8 plus 2x TC

hi all

can people who have used the ef400 2.8 with the canon 2x TC please comment on the IQ e.g. contrast levels, CA, etc.

and i would really appreciate it if someone could put up images at f5.6, 7.1 and 11 preferably at a lowish iso.

And no i am not buying it :shake: (1 day perhaps) . I am looking to hire a Sup.tele and there is very little out there about this lens+TC.

From the link below it looks like it is as good (maybe a bit better) than the 300mm f2.8 which is no mean feat.

I have the 300mm and it is perfectly usable with the 2 TC and many times I use it with both the 2x and 1.4x stacked.

Never mind bias (it's pretty much a Canon-only site anyway) look at the comparisons micloi kindly loaded up for you.

You will not find a better illustration of that lens' performance anywhere. There are only a handful of lenses around that can take a 2x telecon, and that is one of them.

Make sure you know what you're letting yourself in for though, it's a monster. Even heavier than the 600 500 4 with 1.4x might be more manageable.

Agree with HoppyUK about the size and weight. When I had a 500mm f4 it had a 1.4x on it virtually all the time giving me 700mm f5.6 and the IQ was terrific
