Is a Nikon EN EL4 battery a fake if it doesn't have a Nikon hologram underneath it?

Not sure - all of mine have the gold sticker - which you'll notice is 'sunken' into a moulding in the plastic...
The other battery looks identical in all other respects apart from the moulding being missing, so presumably they didn't even come off the same production-line...it's not like the sticker fell-off, that small recess just isn't there...

I assume you're saying it came in a Nikon-branded box from a 'proper' dealer...? If you still have the box there'll be a bar-coded sticker on it somewhere...that's where I'd start...

Saying all that, if it did come properly-packaged and if it charges OK and lasts as long as the branded model...is there really a problem...?

Are you sure the one without a sticker is an EN-EL4 and not an EN-EL3? - they look exactly the same and fit both D2 series and D3 series...

If you don't mind me saying - that is both neither the point or true.

You should get what you have paid for and understand to be the genuine article.

And if proved to be a fake, who knows what ecological damage and under what conditions it was manufactured. To turn a blind eye is playing into their hands.

I would certainly take it up with the seller and then the manufacturer if I didn't get any satisfaction.

I didn't say that - it may not be a fake - I have a bunch of EN-EL3 batteries and they don't have holographic stickers...
Unless it came in a Nikon EN-EL4 box that is...

Yes if it's a fake, take it back - bloomin' things cost £100 FFS...!!!

Thanks for the clarification. Hope the OP can get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for your replies, both. I bought a used D2X a few days ago and it came with the 2 batteries in the pics. Just emailed the seller and he told me that the spare was bought from the authorised Nikon dealer that sold the camera new and at the same time so must be genuine. They are exactlly the same apart from the recessed hologram. There are 2 pics in my link. You will see the 2nd pic if you click on the right of the link.
