It's my point and shoot compact,set to auto,no movement...was wondering what's causing the 'effect',not sure of the technical wording ?

Only a cheap sd card but has served well,does it need a format or is there a problem with the camera ?

It doesn't look like flare tbh, its a bit odd to be coming off all the over exposed bits if that makes sense, maybe a smeared lens, but again...hmmmm.....
 
Would say your lens needs a clean. but heres the exif for the mindful.

Different camera (Kodak Zi8) and not a problem as such but was wondering what caused this effect ?

Slow speed pan (lunchtime parade lap),no control over settings so wasn't looking for any motion blur

That is due to the way the camera takes the picture - it takes it line by line rather than whole sensor image at once; hence when it gets to the lower parts of the image the car has moved forward slighly from where it was when it started scanning.

Same effect is seen when togging rotating helicopter blades - you end up with curved blades
 
Thanks for the reply feriso,not sure I fully understand that explanation,considering the fast shutter speed used but I kinda like the effect it produced
Might stick it in the duffers thread :p
