Hi,

I have just purchased my first Canon IS lens (300mm F2.8). Are there any tips for looking after it? I guess it only kicks in once the shutter button is pressed, so walking with it with the camera on is not a problem? How much quicker will it drain the camera battery?

Can anyone also tell me the difference between the two IS settings?

Thanks:thumbs:

I have 70-200 IS

answer 1)
have had it on the camera all day at an equestrian "do"
2,000 pictures with IS and camera on the whole time
still didn't drain the battery

answer 2a)
Mode 1 gives horizontal and vertical
Mode 2 gives you vertical stabilistaion, but not horizontal (ideal for panning)

answer 2b)
RTFM!!!:rules:

IS doesn't really drain the battery that much more but it will a bit. Is mode one is normal and the other is for panning so it works at a 90 degree angle to the direction you move so if panning horizontally it will reduce the vertical movement
