Yes
I keep reading conflicting reports that the 7D is the replacement for the 60d and that there won't now be a 60d next year.

Can anyone confirm or deny this with any confidence, i.e. not just more rumours?

I think there will be a 60D next year.

The feature set of the 7D is quite a bit higher than the 40D and 50D.

Canon were planning on running a two tier xxD, witness the 40D and the 50D running concurrently, with the planned 60D replacing the 50D and the 50D moving down to the 40D level. I think they were planning an annual update.

However a global recession came along and may have changed their thinking. The 12month cycle may go back to the traditional 18 month cycle, and with the advent of the 7D, the xxD range may return to a single camera, otherwise the leap from 500D to 7D is too great.

No, for one thing, it's selling at like £500 than the 50D, the 50D was never £500 more than the 40D.

no it's not the 50D's replacement - it's a whole new camera genre higher than the 50D, but lower than the 1D

there's a good pciture to descibe the tier of the range will go look

Sounds good to me, I'm waiting for the 60d announcement next year as to whether I'll get this or a cheaper 50d. Does anyone know if it will come with HD video, I'm not sure if thats a must for me or not, I have a HD camcorder but being able to record the odd clip when I don't take it might be appealing as long as it is 1080p and at least 30fps (24fps would be nice too)

does anyone remember there was a photo of a poster displaying the tiers of the EOS range when the 7D was announced

had 1ds3 1dmk3 at top
then 5dm2 + 7D
then 50D
then 500D etc

in japanese i think

I've trawled through everything on here and the web and can't find it :cuckoo::thinking:

There was talk within the industry that Canon was going to drop the system they used for numbering their 10d,20d,30d,40d & 50d models and go with a single digit this was talked about 6 months ago then the 7d arrived. Does canon need 5 1.6 crop sensors in their range ie 1000d,450d,500d,50d & 7d or do you need just 3 ie basic starter 1000d one 500d in the middle and 1 top end 7d i get the feeling the 450,500 & 50 will morph into one camera in the future i know some people will say the 450d has been discontinued but they are still in plentiful supply that said i suppose we will have to wait and see

Spot on that is what the Canon UK presentation said-they even had a slide show to support it!!

I think we can expect a 60D in the first 1/4 2010 I guess keep an eye on "Canon Rumours"

More levels = more money, people upgrade little bit at a time will make them a lot more money.
