is the d7100 a worthwhile upgrade from d90

hi all just wondered what anyones thoughts were on the above upgrade,just on a like for like lens output quality thanks
 
Yes! I had a D90 a while back and now using a D7100 and a friends D600.

The IQ, focus speed, ISO Performance are all improved.

Is that with the 7100 or 600 against the d90 and is there a slight or very noticeable difference thanks iwols
 
The short answer is yes. You will get a better focus system (obviously if its functional ;) ), better image quality, better fps, better ISO, better viewfinder, dual SD cards, slightly tougher and better build, more mega pixels, better video and better live view etc

thanks for the replys but what is meant by if its functional
 
I moved from a D90 to a D7000 and found a fair old difference, but it's mainly improvements rather than completely new features. The better low light performance is probably the greatest feature, but I find the AF to be an improvement too, and it's just that little bit nicer to use.
 
Just upgraded from D90 to D7100, and yes it is worth the jump. It is a massively more capable camera, better image quality, better low light / high ISO performance, impressive focusing system, more functions to hand rather than having to dig in the menus, user definable buttons, etc. but will retain the familiarity of your D90 so no need to have to particularly re-learn anything. The closer comparisons in terms of model equivalence might be to the D300 rather than the D90.

I'd expect that if you do end up with a problem camera, then it would be fixed / replaced under warranty, but even if Nikon are still quibbling, you could take it back and request a replacement under sale of goods act (or AN other relevant regulation) so not really seeing that there would be any risk.
 
IQ is superb if you use good glass. You don't need pro glass though. I have been using the 16-85 and 70-300 with some super sharp shots. I'm looking forward to my holidays to give the 50mm a good work out!

thanks did you have any of the so called af problems and how would you know if your camera had these issues

It's improved in every way, including image quality. Only you, and your spare cash, can say whether it's worth the upgrade. It is better, if you can afford it and feel you want to spend that much on a new camera then it's worth it.

I wouldn't worry about getting a bad one, it's probably very rare and you could just return it and get a new one of there is a fault.
 
As its a fairly new camera does anyone think it will come down in price or has it already done that thanks

That IS a good price from Grays! They tend to usually be at the upper range.
Some UK suppliers are giving 5yrs warranty.

Digitalreview are actually selling at £859, but with it being a new model & some with a few issues reported, i'd much rather get it kosher in the UK, especially with the far superior warranties.

Another idea would be to look at a used d300 for £400 or a used d700 for same sort of money to a new 7100. Great cameras.

Very happy with my D7100, can't honestly give you a list of advantages of the upgrade as I've never owned a D90, but as a camera, it does the job nicely.
