Is there a more..... "ergonomic" grip for the canon 40d?

A lot of people, me included, like the extra bulk and weight the grip gives to the camera. For me, on my 50D, it feels better balanced when shooting handheld and I like the portrait button

Of course none of this helps with your question but I dont think there is an alternative 'style' of grip for any of the Canon models

Yes i know the pro's of having a grip - I too like the extra bulk and weight, especially with the 50mm lens, that's why i gripped my 400d, but THAT grip doesn't feel like a piece of ***** bolted onto the camera! It's honestly the worst feeling thing ever, just does not look or feel right. Look at the D700 grip, why can't we have a nice, ergonomically designed grip like that? It's moulded to fit the shape of the hand, as it should be. I just wondered if anyone could recommend a better-feeling 3rd party one?

I don't think there's anything on the market (either OE or after-market) that will win any beauty competitions but that doesn't bother me personally. The benefit of the extra battery capacity and the better balance far outweighs the fact that it looks like an breezeblock glued underneath your camera !
Purely personal opinion I know - my missus agrees with you and she ditched the grip from her 20D for aesthetic reasons. Suited me fine as it bolts straight onto my 40D saving me the expense of buying my own.........

Just sold mine, too much extra weight and would rather carry an extra battery or two in my bag
Also concerned when I saw the thread about them having to be cut off because the cogs inside have worn down

Third time i've tried a grip on different cameras and all have ended up with the same result, would seem i'm not a gripper

would seem i'm not a gripper

many professional togs aren't. i love the grip on my 400d but hate the 40d grip. only reason i was even considering it for my 40 was for time-lapse but i'll see how i go on without the extra battery life
