Is this fungus???

I had an sigma 70-200 F2.8 that looked like that,it was sent in for repair £250 :eek:,they said the it was something to do with the glass (element) that had a fault in it :(
 
Looks more like dust to me. I have had a few older lens with fungus and they are like mini spiders webs, they are spores.. Nothing like your picture. Give the lens a good clean with a lens wipe, IPA etc....... just incase it's on the outer part.
 
yep, It looks like dust to me too, although they do look more uniform in size and wider spread than average.

Its not always that easy to tell where the particles actually are with all those reflective concave and convex glass surfaces going on in a lens, sometimes your looking at particles closer to the front element that appear to be just behind the back element, combine those with ones that are actually behind the back and it seems like the thing is dusted all to hell and back.
Zooms do tend to accumulate more dust than primes though, still if the thing still shoots a fair picture, its nothing to get too obsessive about.
 
Difficult to tell from your pics but if you have a macro lens take a shot and enlarge it, fungus appears as tiny star fish like shapes.
 
If you've got a compact digital camera use the macro function on it to take pictures if that helps? Fungus tends to be white and furry or sticky looking. From what I see it looks like dust as it just looks like circular shapes without fur, sticky or even a clear film around the outer edges of the white particles.

Does the rear end of the lens move when you zoom? If so then zoom it and shine a torch inside and you'll be able to see if there's fungus inside the barrel. There'll be more inside if it is especially with that amount on the glass. Hope you get it sorted.
