Is the canon 40D meant to be able to handle higher ISO levels ok? ISO 100 and 200 I can get pin sharp, anything above 400 always seems really OOF I am probably being really daft but I see gorgeous ISO 600 shots then mine seem all blurry and nasty, what am I doing wrong?

The answer might come to me in the night, I really should be in bed

If you post some examples with exif it'll be easier to tell if your technique is just a bit wrong.

Also depends on the situation, the 40D is able to handle ISO right the way up to 1600 in some situations, but will do it badly in others.

And yeah post up some photos and you will get more responses :)

In my experience, there is a general falloff of sharpness the higher the ISO, but a certain amount of this can be corrected afterwards if shooting RAW. Are you using RAW or JPEG? If so, try shooting a few frames with RAW+JPEG and then having a play with the CRW files in Lightroom (download a free trial).

This is assuming it's not a technique thing!

Cheers,
James
