Isolating image on white

Hi all,

Just got my first lightbox, with a blue background. I've take a few macro shots of stuff, but I'm having real problems turning them into isolated images on a white background. I'm using PS CS3. Can anyone tell me the best way to achive this please ?

It would probably be easiest to use a white background instead of a blue. If you use a blue background then the probability is that the blue will be reflected onto the outer surfaces of the objects meaning that even if you do isolate them onto white the edges will look blue.

Otherwise, depending on the object I would use the marquee tool (or pen tool if you are proficient with it) and cut out the object just inside the outside edges to remove/lessen the blue and feather them slightly on the crisp edges and more on the less focused areas (or do this later using the blur tool) and insert a white background.

If you need it on a white background so you can insert it elsewhere for example, then shoot it on a white background - it's so much easier and less time consuming
