I don't think you've gone majorly wrong, mate. First thing I notice is that you have no storey to the photo, its just a waterfall....pull back and see if theres a bit of more to it, wheres it come from, wheres it going to, whats the sky like.....

Exposure seems to be fine and colours seem ok, but I think its either a little blured or needs a little sharpening since its been scaled down for the web.

I have a shot from the same place if you'd like to see that and compare?

Hope this helps....

Simon

I'd say you have not made any major technical mistakes too. The composition is what needs some work.

Waterfalls like this are so much harder than you might think to make something interesting out of.

The cascading water looks nice while you are there but tends to make for a boring picture if it is the only ingredient in the shot. Think about the whole scene where the waterfall is just a part of it - not stuck bang in the middle and filling the shot. Include where it came from and/or where it is going to.

Your last added shot is better but the waterfall is still too central. The water leaves heading to bottom left. If you could have moved to your right you could have had the river running top right to bottom left and created a flow through the picture.

Movement is perfect.
I personal would have liked to see more of the surroundings.
The waterfall draws your eyes into the pic but then, that's it,there's nothing else to see.[just an amateurs prespective]

Thanks for the comments. I'll bear them in mind for next time I have a go there!

I'd like a comparison of these in B&W. I always feel the colour detracts you away from the blurred water any chance ?

Ah Jezzy Dean, its been years since i was there - i live down in Sussex now.

Last one, really nice composition, I like the refection in the river at the top there...

Nice photo.
Not too easy getting lower/nearer the waterfall in Jesmond Dene!
Thanks again for the tips, all.
