The B/G is a bit similar so subject matter doesn't really stand out...but then taking pics of birds in the wild you do not really have the luxury of picking and setting up the perfect B/G now do you?

If anything I would say the bird is slightly too central (IMHO)...would have preferred less "dead space" behind it.

Still a cracking image...well done!

Lovely - Mallard males have such attractive plumage. Makes them very photogenic.

Nice shot Andy. The mallards look great at the moment. Agree about the background but that is what you were presented with, so what can you do.

Thanks everyone. I was pleased with how well it came out so far away at only 1/200s. 2s mirror-up delay to shutter firing helped keep the sharpness (100% crop on the feet):
