I am so excited!! I have just won an ebay auction for the following lens: EF 28-105mm f/3.5 - f/4.5 II USM, and I just can't wait to receive it! I am going to use it for a walkabout lens, as I find myself keeping changing lenses, which gets quite annoying after a while. Of course my other two lenses will also stay, as they are greatly suited to do their jobs :)

I read a lot of good reviews and a couple of bad ones about this lens. What do you guys think??

I had it. Not too bad, and actually quite good at 105mm for smooth and very slightly dreamy portraits. Boheh is quite nice so in that way it is good. However as you move to the wider end things start to get grimmer and by 28mm (which is not wide at all on crop) there is distortion, lack of sharpness and plenty of CA. Another major issue with the lens is that it will make you want the 24-105mm f/4L IS. I've seen reviews saying 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM was a much better alternative for crop cameras but at that point I had 24-70mm f/2.8.

I mean, to a professional as yourself this may be really visible and a large problem, however I am hoping that for a hobbist like myself, it will be a fabulous lens. I heard that some copies are sharp enough and okish at the wide end :/

I will just have to wait and see :)
