Just Got A New Camera Strap

Hi all,

This is more for information but please feel free to comment.

I have been looking to get a replacement camera strap and today I found one.

I Was out shopping with a mate today and ended up getting a new camera strap from the most unlikely of places (not sure if Im allowed to say the stores name).

It is a Pacsafe CarrySafe 100, So far Im really impressed with how comfortable it is compared to the original canon one.

It has a neoprene neck pads and Neoprene covers over the joining clips, The most important thing though is that that it is slash proof. got my for £13 (minus a 20% discount).

Just thought I would let you all know.

Can you expand on this a little better please?

The main reason I got the strap not only because it is a lot better comfort wise than the standard canon one but the big one for me is that it is slash proof, are the others?

I have seen the results from this type of thing happening with handbags etc.. and this is not something that I fancy happening with my camera.

I just thought that it might be another alternative, I am not saying that it is any better than the others that you have pointed out but its always good to have an alternative.

If thats the reason that you got one & your happy with it then thats all that matters...

Think you'll find that there is always going to be a negative to any positive post.... Its just human nature..

I've brought items in the past & there is always someone out there that will try & put a downer on things - just don't let it get to you...

Most of all just dont bite back - there's Haywards pickled onions for that ;)

A conventional camera strap can be worn 3 ways.
1. Round the neck. The only real way that it can be used rapidly - but when not in use it is "in the way" and bounces up and down on your chest annoyingly.
2. On the shoulder. Can be used in this fashion but often is difficult to bring up to eye level and when not in use tends to slide off the shoulder.
3. Across the neck/shoulder. Renders camera just about unusable. Most secure/comfortable way to carry camera.

The Black Rapid style of strap combines all the advantages of the 3 methods above with absolutely none of the disadvantages.

I got mine from Amazon:
a. because it was a good price
b. because I could return it if I didn't like it.

Absolutely NO WAY am I going to return it, having tried it !

That is an excellent price for a 'wire-through' strap, the equivalent Rapid-type strap with wire-through was over £60 last time I looked.
It obviously has its limitations but is a very reasonably priced anti-theft strap.
 
Is somebody slashing your strap to take your camera really a problem?

It kinda sounds like fantasy to me.

I mean... I'd rather just buy insurance. If they're carrying a knife they can quite frankly have it.

Then as they're running away they'll get an 80kg fist to the back of the head.

But I wouldn't want to get into a tustle at point-blank range with someone who's got a knife in my back wondering why they can't cut my camera strap.

LOL that made me laugh :lol:

Even when i use my R-strap, I have one hand on it to control its movement, shield it, and (as I also have a hand strap) be quick to take advantage of any shots that come about. It's not like someone is going to be able to cut and run without me noticing.

got myself one from amazon too - the rs-4. it is pricy but its brill.

I got one of these straps too, I never use the straps that come with the camera :lol: I use mine the regular way, and I have made it in to a DIY R-Strap before with no cutting/stitching and it can be reverted back to the original form. I bought mine from tooled-up.com, it's like £12 there.
