Kata R103 or Lowepro Vertex 200?

I'm finding my walkabout camera rucksack a bit too small at times.

It's the Lowepro Mini Trekker AW.

I want a slightly bigger rucksack but not as big as a Photo Trekker.

Two bags seem to fit the bill. One is the Kata R103 or the Lowepro Vertex 200. Both have hip straps but I don't think the Lowepro ones can be detached.

Any thoughts on bags? Anyone got them?

I have the R-103 and HB-205. Both are fantastic bags, exude quality and are very comfortable.

The R-103 will take a laptop, providing it isn't a pro camera, or a 5D etc. with grip, otherwise the laptop would get crushed due to the depth of the bag. A non gripped camera and laptop will be fine :)

If you wish to take a big tripod with you, strapped to the R-103, then IMHO that's not a good idea, and the HB-205 would be ideal. The R-103 would happily take a travel tripod on the side or on the back, but certainly not a 3 series Gitzo with ballhead :nono:

They really are designed and made wonderfully well, and take more stuff than you'd think :)

hi clive

i've recently upgraded from the minitrekker AW to the vertex 200,and it's a great bag.i can get both my A700's with grips attached in it..one with 70-200 F/2.8 attached, and one body only, sony 11-18,sigma 18-50 2.8,sigma 105 macro, flashgun, rocket blower extension tubes, cokin filters etc, plus there's lots of pockets for spare batteries, lens cloths etc...and will carry a lap top should you need to...also is an all weather rucksack.

can't comment on the kata bag though...

Thanks for the comments guys. Much appreciated. I did see a Vertex 200 in Currys the other day and try it over just the one shoulder. Seem to fit ok. For me the Kata is an unkown quantity.

Have usually brought Lowepro.

Out of curiousity Stan do you use the hip straps much? As said did try it in Currys over just one shoulder and it seemed quite good. Usually just have mini trekker over just one shoulder.

hi clive....yes mate i do use them, unless it's a short walk to my intended shoot.the hip straps make a difference in the comfort stakes, especially with the amount of gear i carry in it.don't forget that you will more than likely be carrying a lot more weight in the vertex than you ever could in the mini trekker,so having it slung over one shoulder will put you off balance.

Thanks M8 for the advice. Really appreciate it.

Have tonight ordered it from Amazon. I'm entitled to free fast delivery so will get bag on Thursday.
