i had a chance to test one of these out a few weeks ago and was extremely impressed with it ,the i.q is on a par with canons own t.c's and whilst playing around i accidentally knocked the toggle on the camera and found to my delight with my rig (canon 1dmk3 and sigma 150-600mm os ) that all focus points were useable as opposed to canons t.c which are centre point only on that rig .a huge implacation for owners of the tamron or sigma versions of these long lenses that have f8 focus bodies .
now after a little windfall earlier this week i decided to order one of these last night ,searching the general run of u.k stores the average price was £139.99 ,looking on e/bay and amazon they are available from various small sellers for £119.99 but by chance i flagged up a price deal site that took me to PARK CAMERAS a u.k high street shop chain with a good name who are selling them for £99.99 with free delivery ,a massive 25% off rrp so mines now in the post .
updates on performance etc will follow when it arrives
 
feeling very deflated this morning ,t.c arrived and they have sent the wrong one out ,sent me a mc4 instead of a HD ,and when i phoned them up they haven't got a h.d in stock so its a two week wait till they restock .totally p***ed off now .and if i had a refund i would have to then pay more for another one .grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:punch::punch::punch::punch::punch:
 
That's weird Jeff as they are showing as 'in stock' on the website, just looked a second ago. Maybe a phone call would be prudent or they haven't updated the site and it's a mistake?
Worth checking though imo.
 
Not the Canon version but Nikon...........

I bought the 1.4 Kenko Pro 300 DGX a couple of weeks ago for Nikon. When attaching to lens and body the combo would AF fine for one shot and then the VF would black out. Removed and repeated the procedure a few times and it was the same for every shot. When releasing from camera there seemed to be a release noise from camera, as if something was snagged?? Returned and bought the Nikon version of this forum and its working fine. Also the Nikon one seems to AF quicker and the IQ is the same as if using the lens bare. This was using the D750 and 300mm AFS f4 lens.

I had one earlier last year when using the D7100 and the performance was very hit and miss in the type of weather we are having now. I know others have had the same issue along with others with no problem at all, so there maybe batch variances?

I thought it was worth mentioning my latest experience, in-case others have problems, or it maybe I just had one duff one?

the one i'm waiting for is the NEW H.D version i have tested one and its a superb bit of kit ,i guess i'll just have to wait till they come back into stock ,according to royal mail they have had the wrong one back today so i will chase it up early next week
 
ye haw ,mines just turned up and the right one this time ,checked it out and it functions as did nats one ,i.e with the 1Dmkiii and sigma 150-600 sport all focus points are enabled including the ring of fire a/f ,this is going to be one hell of a big deal for distant targets and b.i.f as it now pushes the focal length to 840mm on a 1.3 crop body and i will try it later on my lads 7d2 to see how that works ,and report back when tested .
i have to note that after the initial cock up park cameras have been exemplary with there service . i.e wrong item received back saturday right item posted out monday for tues delivery.
and from a u.k high street shop brand with 25% off of retail it was a bite yer hand off deal

I got one for Christmas. Didnt think id use it much but so far its more or less stuck between my 5DMKIII and Canon 70-300L. I was worried about the drop to f/8 at the long end, and of course that is a real issue at this time of the year, but as long as the light isnt too bad im very happy to use it.
I'd always thought these things were a bit hit or miss as far as IQ goes but i have no issues using mine and pixel peeping (i know i shouldn't).
The best part of course is that it works with all my lenses, so i keep it in my bag even if im just going out with primes.

I even tried it out with my Sony a6000, adapter and 70-300L. Amazed that AF worked, although it was a bit too slow to be usable.
 
There are several older versions of the kenko t.c ,but to be honest having tried most of them in the past they left a lot to be desired ,this NEW HD model is a completely different item though ,there are several changes to functions ,all focus points at f8,very little loss of I.q ,and the ability to allow you to use EF-S lenses on full frame cameras .
So why spend £50 on a out of date model when these new ones are only £99
 
Any one tried it on the Nikon 70-300 vr,i have the 150-600 but it would be nice to take out with the 70-300.
 
Looks like its only available for Canon :(
 
kenko test 2 .jpg kenko test 1 .jpg couple of test shots taken this morning ,hand held at 840mm .just a quick camera grab when i saw the gulls on the field out front of the house .seems fine to me so far .
 
Top of the range Kenko teleconverters generally have a good rep, and will physically fit a wider range of lenses than the lens manufacturer's own as the optics don't protrude so far. The new HD versions are the same optically as previous models, with updated electronics and communication.

Optical performance of any teleconverter is very largely dependent on the mother lens it's attached to - all a telecon does is enlarge the centre portion of the image. As a rule though, they work better on longer focal lengths that present a narrow image cone to the telecon. Edge sharpness deteriorates at shorter focal lengths.
 
the top image is full width ,the bottom image is 75% with just the left hand 25% cropped off
