Killing my website and moving it to Photoshelter / Zenfolio.

I've got a website that I built myself with wordpress and coppermine, which sort of does the job.

However it doesn't look as slick as it could, plus (an overdue) upgrade of WP and coppermine looks to be a right pain as I've tweaked loads of the old code.

So I've decided to move everything over to Photoshelter my current favoured choice , or maybe Zenfolio.

So my question is, I presume 99% of my current google indexed links will no longer work and will produce a 404 page not found.

Has anyone else done this?

assuming there's no easy way of keeping the same url's, what you need my friend is the good old 301 redirect, which will redirect traffic and also transfer the search engine ranking to the new pages

just give it a Google, there's 1000's of tutorials on them

I might have found a work around since my starting this thread.

This morning I emailed photoshelter to see if they supported custom URLs, my thinking being that I could move over my current searchable pages. The answer was a no. I also asked where the 404 would redirect to, the answer was their homepage. So bad news there.

However they have Graph Paper Press themes which match their galleries and shop, so I could install the GPP theme on my current server and keep my current searchable URLs, hide the old coppermine stuff, which doesn't show in google searches, and direct to photoshelter for galleries and shopping.

Or at least that seems to be what some others do.

I can speak for Zenfolio. You can create custom URLs within your Zenfolio account, therefore preserving links to your original pages on Google. For more info contact support@zenfolio.com
