I'm considering this, but am looking to see if it can be rooted for the real Android app store

anyone know what it is like for apps without rooting it? wondering if it might make a cheaper alternative for a freidn who was going to get an ipad mini. Would need to be able to get a decent range of games as I know that's what they'll end up using it for, but I cannot find a way to view what apps are available.

just tried to find out if there is anyway to view available apps online and apparently there isn't, the only way is via a Kindle Fire! Odd as amazon.com allows you to view the app store on a computer. I suspect the reported lack of available apps if quite true, I think I'll give it a miss.

tbh its just a cheap tablet - you'd be beter off with a nexus and a reader app. Or if you just want to read books with a basic kindle

Also if your "freind" wants an ipad mini they arent going to be happy with a cheap android tablet of any flavour.

I have now managed to download the app store onto my phone and have a look through it, I can't find any sign of the TP app on there.

There isn't via their store but rooting it is relatively simple (once you realise the firmware basically makes it a Kindle Fire HD), then you can load the normal play store - check here

its like a jailbreak, allows you to run software what wasn't intended for it.

Yep, in this case just to get google play, which opens up the software for these forums.
