Just a quick shot of this lovely view camera I saw at an auction viewing in Newcastle yesterday...

A great purchase for someone, engineered to perfection by the looks of things, but what a size and weight! No wonder digital took off...

That maybe so BUT you can still buy 5x4 and larger format cameras brand new today from the likes of Linhof, Ebony etc.

Also Kodak has just released Extar in 5x4 and 10x8 sizes, plus if you read around enough you will find that large format is very much still in vogue and doing rather nicely thank you.

Was this supposed to sound passive-agressive-patronising? Because it does.

No need to get your Knikkis in a twist, I was simply commenting on the size of the camera, and how it doesn't fit in your average trouser pocket. If you regularly shoot large format (yes I know it's not dead and never said it was) then all power to your elbow. I don't, but I enjoyed seeing the camera, and thought others might too.

Let's keep it positive, eh?

~sigh~ How original

Yes I was aware of what you meant.

Indeed it is a very nice camera and after reading this I went looking round the interwibble for more information.

Let's keep it positive, eh?

I was not aware of upsetting you, sorry if I did and I was trying to stay postive :)

What kind of memory cards does it take ?

How many frames per second?

No pop up flash, that's a deal breaker.

I have a colleague with a Kodak Specialist camera and am trying to date it’s year of manufacture.I cannot find anything on the web either images or manuals. These forums were generally less useful than the equivalents over at NikonWeb, which has a lot of specialist knowledge about the DCS series.

Kodak specialist 3, it would appear that the manufacture of this model was from 1958 through to the early 60,s, half plate size with the back being able to be changed for smaller sizes. The model being denoted by its monorail bed.
