Kood 100mm, anyone use them?

As the title says, I'm looking at a 100mm filter system as my Cokin Ps want work too well on my 10-20 f3.5 (82mm filter size).

I'm sure Lee or Hitech are better but marriage can't afford a set.
 
Hi tech are worth the extra...... Kood have a colour cast! I have a full set of soft and hard grads and nd's which means 9 filters but I probably only use 3
 
thanks. Cheapest Hitech I can find is a set for £51 + import duty (20%?) each.
I was going for 1,2 +4 soft grads
 
Look on eBay for teamwork photo in London! They are the main distributer

KOOD is fine. I used to use Lee, but they got scratched and / or lost. So I bought 0.6 hard kood which fits fine in Lee holder, costs a lot less and gives good results. There is a very slight blueish cast - dead easy to fix in Lightroom if you want. Lee is a tiny bit yellow and hitech is a tiny bit magenta. Hitech is also thinner than LEE or KOOD, so I couldn't recommend unless you get a very questionable Hitech holder.

At the end of a day, you can't lose much by spending £18 on a filter (vs £80!!!)
 
Thanks @Mark twiglet, I couldn't find them on Ebay but found their website. A set of 3 £130.

I think I will go with @daugirdas comment though as £18 isn't much of a gamble if I find them acceptable.
The P series I'm using at the moment has some cheap ebay ND solid filters. there is only a minimum colour cast (green/blue) on these but is within less them 10 points when measuring in PS and, as daugirdas says, easy to correct in LR.
 
I've got a lee holder with hitech filters ! Will replace with lee filters when budget allows
 
are Lee that good?
I heard hitech were the best or is that just the new firecrest range
 
The hitech 'a are good for the price but most pro's use lee to be honest! I've used both and lee is better In my opinion..... Now watch me get shot down for saying that.......

Lee are good, but certainly not £80-a-piece good, not even close.

Hitech firecrest are meant to be a lot better than standard. I have 0.9 from the regular range and it is much thinner than lee and has far heavier cast than anything else I use.

Lee used to be the go to choice for quite a while in UK. The US have other brands like Singh Ray... Right now I am having harder and harder time justifying their products. £18 bit of plastic serves me just as well and I do manually blend quite a lot of images to maximise quality.
 
Do they degrade colour wise. One of my very natural greys as gone a touch purple.
 
Lee is going pretty yellow and certainly less than 0.6 after around 4 years of ownership.

Ironically KOOD claim they are the only ones making fade resistant filters. If you expect yours to last 5 years you are either not going to use them much or have false hope. Something will kill them before they fade. Polycarbonate resin scratches very easily. If you use black Lee valets for storage you'll quickly learn that the hard way (soft cloth is the only safe way of storing them)
 
I have ............
KOOD ND4 soft and ND8 soft (2 & 3 stop)
LEE 0.9 HE and LEE 0.9SE Grad (2 and 3 stop)
in the past i had 100mm Hitech (they were the original ones) and cokin Z pro 1,2 and 3 stop grads

The koods have a minimal blue cast but its easy to get rid of, MUCH easier than the horrible purple cast of the hitechs or cokin, especially when stacked.

I am a bit colourblind and the cast off the cokin and hitechs was a big no no for me as i struggled to see the cast to remove it in post.

The Lees are completely neutral, i dont have to worry about any colour cast at all so for me its worth the extra cost.
I have a hitech firecrest 10 stopper and looked at getting a couple of the firecrest grads but the price of them is even more than the lees.

The kood ones are great if you're on a budget.

One thing i would say though, dont buy a cheap filter holder, it'll do your head in, the lee foundation one is invaluable IMO
 
I received my kood today (the wrong one) but it looks very blue green to me?
The sky here is r95 g96 b96
through the kood (3stop) is r74 g81 b82
 
hmmm interesting... maybe 0.6 is the one to get then. I have to drag the saturation and vibrance sliders to well over +50, and dramatically increase contrast to start approaching anything like the colour cast, and even then +7 yellow; +5 magenta grad completely eliminates the cast.

Perhaps your test is made worse by blown sky and WB camera values (which is not grey, but plain white and then artificially brought back by LR to fake plain grey). The blue bit around the edge of a window is a little suspect as well as very slightly blue window frame tint. But, yeah, 0.9 is clearly a step too far into the blues. Even then it is better than the deep magenta of 0.9 hitech!
 
There was no processing in lr except to export as a jpg. D7100 was set to auto wb.
As I received the solid grey 0.9 I was holding the filter half over the lens to get this.
And although the sky is measuring hi 90s on all channels no area hit 100.

Tbh a bit disappointed when my old ones were so much more neutral and £5 a set
