As title says, im looking for a laptop i can use to edit photos out and about. It has to be light and portable, so i am thinking of a 13" screen. What can people recommend? I have to admit the macbook pro 13" looks nice. I have between £1000 and £1300 budget. Obviously if there is something that comes in under that then great!

I have a 13" macbook pro for the same reasons and it's superb.

I'm considering a 13" mbp for the same reasons, toss up between the 17 for its power and showyness when working at events

to be honest i class "in the field" to be out in the elements (rain, mud, possible crowded places).. im not sure id want to put a macbook through that?

but then it depends where youll be using it.

I meant something that i can take out on a shoot, or something to keep in my bag incase i have to upload pics to an editor. At present i am using a 15 inch samsung which is a beast carry.

I also travel alot so it would be taken on trips too.

if it helps I'm currently considering a dell for similar reasons, combined with power and cost

laptop, peli case (or CPC equivalent) with foam cut out to hold the laptop, extra battery, 5m of usb cable, 2 external hard drives and a cf card reader will be my setup soon... can also make up a sunshade semi supported from the lid of the case.

TBH though, unless you're looking at a toughbook by panasonic then all the other laptops are going to have the same issues.

I use a 13" Dell XPS for a similar thing, however 13" is a little big to take out all the time, more of a "basecamp" laptop (when away from home), or when not moving far from the car.

Unfortunately they replaced the XPS with the Studio XPS now which is terrible so I would suggest you have the S and Y (ULV processor) series Vaios or maybe one of the 13" Dell ULV offerings. Or if you want to go mad the base model X series (11" and less than a kg, but Atom processor and expensive!).

Chase Jarvis has got a really good walk through video on his website of something similar.
