I need to replace my old laptop and I have been having a look around. What do you think of LED screens with regards to viewing your images?
Is there any pros/cons?
I was looking at a HP g-series with and LED "clearview HD" screen.
Cheers

I though almost all laptop screens were LED, by which they mean back lit by LEDs not to be confused with AMOLED screens !!

LED backlights use less power and should give a more even light.

I think most are LCD? LED seems to be the next generation unless Im mistaken?

I have a 13" Macbook Pro, which is quite nice.

But I recently got a new work laptop, a Lenovo W510 with a 1920x1080i LED backlit, anti-glare screen with 95% colour gamut.

It's the most amazing screen I have ever used! If I was buying a new laptop to use for photography work I would buy one in a flash. You can get built-in colour calibration and stuff as an option. The Core I7 processor is fantastic too, shame I can't run Lightroom on it!

no most laptops monitors are lcd liquid crystal led is fairly new tv have been around a while trying to replace lcd, dunno if picture quality is much different but it's power saving

can you calibrate a laptop the same as u can a monitor? mine changes depending on the angle i put the screen at, tilt it back just a bit and it goes slightly darker

My desktop PC monitor does that.

you can but like you say on some it can be hit and miss, thats why generally its better to get an external IPS screen. IPS screens have been available on a few very high end laptops but youre looking at probably £2k.

LED TV screens are simply stunning, there would be no contest between LED vs LCD if I was buying.

LED and LCD usually have the same/similar physical display panel, but the lighting is different.

Which is where the confusion lies as there are both LCD just instead of florescent tubes as back lights they use LEDs. As mentioned earlier such screens should not be confused with the emerging AMOLED (active matrix organic light emitting diode) screens found on some mobiles and mp3 players. That is a very different technology and presently too expensive to make large screens suitable for use on a laptop. Give it a year or two and things will change :-). AMOLED screens don't require a backlight so they can be made thinner and require even less power.

LED screens are luuuuvely, and you can view them from different angles with barely any colour change, unlike LCD's. It will all be LED eventually, so you may as well get one.

As has already been said above there is no such thing as a LED screen, the screens are all LCD its only the backlight which is LED and then there are 2 types, edge lit LED which are not quite as good but are cheaper and full matrix LED backlight which are very good but expensive

Im not a fan of Apple stuff anyway tbh, but with things the way they are I set a reasonable budget for myself.

I presume you mean because it's a work laptop?
