Leica D-Lux 5 automatic lenscap.

Hi,

I've just bought one of these exquisite little cameras, and it's a delight to use and handle.

The problem is, I'm the sort of person who forgets the cap is on, and go to take a shot, but by the time I've removed the cap, and re-set the camera, the shot opportunity is gone.

There is a new sort of cap on the market which allows the lens to 'push' through the cap, thereby eliminating the need for removing it, and I was wondering if anybody has experience with using this sort of cap on a leica.

I'm assuming that the camera recognises the fact that the cap is still on by measuring light through the lens. If this is the case, then it would do the same even with the 'auto' cap attached.

None of the ad's I've seen for this sort of cap mention this as being a problem.

I'd be grateful for any help.

D Luix 5 = LX5? And if that's the case it can be fitted with a JJC lens cap. You just screw it onto the end of your lens and that's it.

I don't think that the camera senses light, rather I think it's resistance and if you turn your camera on whilst obstructing the edge of the lens but not blocking the light you'll get the remove lens cap message. The JJC offers very little resistance and so you don't get the message.

I have one of these on my Samsung EX1 and its works brilliantly. Just screw it onto the lens and it gets pushed open when you turn on the camera.
