Leica M (plus two voigtlanders) or Nikon 810...

Hi

At the moment I am still hankering for a Leica. But prices being high, it might not happen (for a while one hopes).

As I have a nikon 300 and prime lenses, would it be worth while getting the new d810, perhaps selling the 35mm f1.8 and the tokina and getting a samyang 14mm...?

Trying to weigh up the pros/cons... and I'd need to check that the lenses I have would be of sufficient quality to get the best out of the d810...


Thoughts...?
 
leica's are special, really nothing normal is the same

what do u do, and what do you want from your camera's?
 
Atm its only a hobby. (see flickr pages in the siggy).

So in theory I shouldn't get the leica... ;) however...

(insert as many I wants as you can here)

But as it is pricy, and I already have some Nikon lenses, the d810 might be better for now (half the leica price).
Just toying with the idea. But I read on the d800 that you needed really nice glass, and I'm not sure the lenses I have cut it. In which case the price for the d810 increases quickly... and the leica becomes a competitor...

All thoughts atm... need to really save a lot.. so hopefully (fingers crossed) next year...

Oh, anyone know if Leica are releasing a newer model to the M (240)...? Might be worth waiting for...
 
The new M240 is causing a stir with Leica users as some aren't so keen on the CMOS aspect and prefer the CCD of the M9/M-E. If the product life cycle is anything to go by September 2015 is when you might see a replacement on the M240 probably available in 2016. The M-E is rumoured to get an update in September with better LCD etc.

The Leica M9 or M-E is the one I would go for. I had an M9 and some nice glass and now have a D800 and some nice glass and yes the D800 is superior in many ways but the M9 was far more fun to shoot. The only downside is like all systems the best glass costs particularly Leica glass. If you want to scratch that Leica itch then my advice would be get a nice M9 or M-E not the M240.
 
you could get a film leica for less
for day to day stuff of say 20mm ish to 90mmish? the leica range finder system works really well, with normal distances too infinity.

macro and long lens stuff then a dslr is just a better form factor, and using filters too.

but i did love shooting some leica's when i got the chance, they are special and magic and have wonderful rendering

Thanks but no... not film. I like the easiness of retaking and deleting shots without having to wait ages and pay for film processing.

As to the m-e it was a first choice. But I handled it and re-read some reviews and they mention there are more controls and a bogger screen on the m240 vs the me/m9. There was an m-e near here (used) at around 3k ukp... The person bought it, used it, then played with the m240 and prefered the more controls... however at the moment, monies tight and by the time I have a bit, i doubt it will be there.

I know the leica glass is good, but at the same price as the body, its a little too much atm... Hence the two voigtlanders; 15mm f4 and 35mm f1.2 (to replace the wide and 35 mm on the nikon which would go soon after).

I'll keep having a think... :D
