Hi folks, I've recently purchased an EOS 60D with the 17-85 IS USM lens and I have been granted 'security clearance' from my wonderful wife :cool: to add to my lens collection.....nothing too expensive but more toys are coming my way I feel :)

From reading LOTS of posts here, I have made the decision that the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 MK2 is a good value piece of kit to have

The second option is giving me a little more trouble though......what are your thoughts?

Option 1:- Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS

or

Option 2:- Canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 USM MK3

or

any other similarly priced alternatives?

I have option 1 and it is very good for the money and often recommended. I can't comment on option 2 unfortunately.

Another lens highly recommended here is the Canon EF 70-200F4L (non-IS) and usually retails new between £400-500.

There is another alternative in the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM is usually available between £300-£400 new.

Another vote for the 55-250 IS, much sharper than the 75-300.
 
If you can stretch to the 70-200F4L, do it. It really is a superb lens and easily worth the money.
 
Thanks for the replies, unfortunately the 70-200 F4L is out of my budget range for now :'(
