Lens filter for Canon 24-70 f2.8

Having invested in a new lens I was looking at also buying a UV filter to protect the glass. Having looked, I have seen a massive difference in price and have even been offered an HD filter (HD!).

Not being one to want to waste money, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a decent filter that will do a decent job. I don't mind spending the money but I don't want to buy something from HK which is pointless.

I like Hoya Pro-1 Digital filters, they are decent quality (multicoated) and not too pricey. Although I recently picked up a B+W MRC UV filter and although it is a bit pricier, it does feel a bit more solidly built than the Hoyas.

hoya pro-1 filter is on my lens, did try a cheaper one mainly for protection but was getting quite noticeable vignetting probably due to the thickness of the lens, but since putting the pro-1 no problems at all
