Hoping to buy my first DSLR this weekend. I've decided on a 40D but unsure about the lens I intend to buy with it.

The two lenses I’ve been considering are the canon 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM and the sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5. I can get both with the camera for practically the same amount of money.

I have decided to go with the sigma 17-70 but was looking for a bit of advice as to whether this would be the best choice.

Thanks in advance

Canon 17-85 is a quite sharp lens compared to Sigma. But Sigma got 2.8 aperture and perform better for sports photography and low light photography. I have used both lenses. Sigma sometimes.produce out of focus photos.
