It's a fine lens. You'll get some great shots with it outdoors.

However, if you intend to shoot inside (say dressage or jumping) you'll need an f/2.8 telephoto ideally but they are new expensive. F/4 won't be fast enough.

Hi Jessica and welcome :wave:

The 70-200 F4 is a very very nice lens and you wouldn't be disappointed with it, BUT it isn't £300 - you are going to need to stretch your budget even for a 2nd hand model.

What lenses do you currently have, how close can you get -> will 200mm be long enough for you ??

Another option maybe the Canon 70-300IS lens, it is a very good lens and very well regarded and should be in your price range 2nd hand (just over brand new).
