Hi guys, i have noticed a number of sales threads stating "no fungus" in the lens sales.

1. How much of a problem is this?
2. How would you protect against this?
3. How would you remove it if ever infested?
4. Could this be a problem with the Camera body as well.
 
It occurs as a result of condensation forming within the lens, which can happen if the lens is stored in a non-dry, dark place for extended periods or if it's brought from a cold environment into a warm, humid one.

To avoid it, keep lenses in a very dry place and make sure light gets into/through them now and then as the UV will kill off any fungal spores. I keep a large bag of silica gel in my camera bag just to be extra safe.

The fungus itself isn't a problem, it's the fact that it etches the glass elements. If this happens then there's nothing you can do to remove it, the element will need replacing which may not be cost effective.
 
There are some videos online on how to clean fungus.
I stripped down an old lens the other day. As long as you make a note of the order of dis-assembly then you should be fine.
I managed to get a lens that would normally be £80 on ebay for £11 because it has 'slight' fungus on the lens.

That is awsome.. unfortunately i cant trust my self as i always manage to get dust every where even if i was in a clean room! lol
