Lens help. Make sure my thinkin' is right !

I made a thread recently trying to decide on which Body to buy this year, well that's decided and I'm opting for a D7000 but not yet, prolly June time. This made me think about lenses.

I currently have 3:

• 18-55mm Kit lens that came with the D60. This I've been meaning to replace for a while.
• 90mm Tamrom Macro DI. I may well sell this to help fund another one, I do enjoy a bit of back garden bug hunting but I've badly damaged a disc in my back and thats no really conducive with bends over an insect
• Nikkor 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 - This is my main attachment and tends to be used at the 300mm end hand held trying to snap wildlife while out walking.

Now I'm thinking of selling to Tamron and Nikkor and buying a Nikkor Nikon VRII 70mm-200mm F/2.8 AFS G ED AF. I can't afford the mega money for a Nikkor 300mm Prime and the lack of OS on the Sigma is a little off putting. Coupled with a 1.4x TC am I right in thinking I'll have almost the same reach as the 70-300 with a slightly bigger aperture of f4 and if I really wanted to i could go 2x TC for even greater range with f5.6?

I would then (at some point when the bank recovers) buy a 50mm and a small zoom to replace the Kit Lens. Would this be a good route to take or am I missing/confusing what I'm reading, there is after all a LOT to take in

Sounds like a half decent plan. I can feel your pain (literally) with the back problem and macro, but I could never give up my macro lens,
Is your 70-300 the VR version, beacuse thats a corker on DX cameras, and whilst not as fast as the 70-200, its a whole lot lighter!

It depends if youd miss the wider angle in between. Having 70 as your shortest length could be quite restrictive, unless you only shoot outside in good space.

Thanks for the feedback, I going to get a nifty fifty at some point also, plus a little further down the road a lens to fill the void left by the kit lens (which isn't a very big void)
