Lens hood

Should do the job yes. I'm surprised that a lens hood that's supposed to be for a 28-90mm lens is so small though...

So, that lens hood would be a worthy buy?

I know what you mean but they were the hoods originally designed for those lenses.

The 28-90 is a pretty old and basic lens and was just a 'kit' lens for film cameras.

Your 18-55 lens covers the same range (due to the sensor size on the 500d) and also includes IS. You can pick the 28-90 up for about £30 on eBay though if you wanted a longer range but IMO you'd be better off with the 55-250 IS to get into the telephoto range.

Sorry, was asking if the lens hood was ok to buy. lol

Sure if you feel you need it.

I'd be reluctant to advise you to spend extra on a kit lens though. Do you feel you really need the hood? What are your issues at the moment, that make you want a hood.

I have the kit lens already, Was wondering if the hood would be a good idea when out on a sunny day?

Hoods will help on a sunny day but that one looks too small to have any effect, they are also good for keeping rain of the front element and lastly just to stop you scratching it if you bump into something and don't have a filter.
