Hi, i am a newbie regards to photography and have just bought a used Nikon Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens.
Call me thick but the message i am getting is "Lens not attached" and i have removed and replaced it a number of times.
I have noticed that compared to some other lenses i have, that there is no contact points on this one.
Does this mean that i need some sort of converter ring on the camera?
Help would be appreciated.

Hi babblers and welcome to TP

When you say your getting that error message is it actually "FEE"? If so then your problem is probably quite simple to rectify. On the lens, turn the aperture ring - that's the one with numbers from 1.8 to 22 (or so) - all the way to the highest number. Somewhere close to the aperture ring will be a small switch which locks the ring in place. Engage the lock and the FEE message should disappear.

You will be able to set the aperture using the control wheel on the body of your camera but the lens won't auto-focus.

If your lens doesn't have any electrical contacts at all then I would recommend checking if it is compatible with your body - there should be a compatibility chart in your camera manual - or you may damage the camera by using it.

You may have bought an older lens, before electrics and all that came about.
If your camera supports it, you might have to enter the CPU data into the camera.
This tells the camera what lens it is, and you should then gain some control, although it will likely be fully manual exposure and focus.

Try the above advice first though, as that often soves many problems.

Hi Babblers.

What is your camera and what is the full model name/designation for the lens you purchased?
