Lens or tripod, kitbag and other accessories?

Right, you guys are probably going to rip me to pieces in annoyance seeing as I've already asked about tripods and a 55-250mm lens but I'm really not sure what to go for.

My options are:
  • To buy THIS lens (Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS)
  • Or to buy a tripod, kit bag and some other random accessories to make myself look and feel less "nooby"

Obviously I can't afford both seeing as I'm a poor student and what not, so what do you think? :thinking:

In either event you still won't need a bag, the lens can go in a pocket and the tripod won't fit in a bag anyway. ;)

I have wildlife and sport in mind, so I guess that directs me towards the lens... Hmm :thinking:
 
I'd say definitely the lens. You've already had some recommendations for it and it is a great lens, and that's a great price too. I can personally recommend Digigood as one of the best ebay sellers too. I've had loads of gear from them, my 7D and 580EX II, a couple of bridge cameras for the kids plus other stuff too. Everytime I make an order with them it's delivered bang on time, 2 or 3 days at the most for me.

Don't ever worry about looking or feeling nooby like, we all start somewhere. The good folk on here will help you stop feeling nooby like, the place is a mine of information with brilliant advice through every section.
Also, as you said, your a poor student and can't afford both, this means you need to spend wisely on what you NEED, not what will make you look or feel better.
I would say the lens too, if you just need a case for your camera jessops trek range are bargain basement at the moment to give a bit of protection and upgrade later.
The old addage 'buy cheap buy twice' is one to remember, i am on a similar path as you and want to shoot wildlife, therefore, i will be buying the 55-200mm as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. I have made mistakes by buying cheap though and will have to buy again, tripod ! But thats another story.
