Hi, I'm looking for a lens recommendation for mainly landscape and city buildings. It's to be paired with a Nikon d7100 but I'm toying with the idea of getting a full frame camera during the new year so I have to bear that in mind when choosing the lens. Budget wise would be around the £1000 pound mark.

I'd be stuck between a Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 or the Nikon 70-200mm (S/H)

I guess most people would say go for the wide angled lens out of the two but the 70-200mm is still a pretty useful lens. Either way, they'll both be good for FF when you do go! Sorry that's not much help!
 
24-70 2.8?

never owned one but used my brother's a couple of times cracking lens.
 
The lens I mostly use for architecture is the 16-35 f/4 (about 95%) and will be your best choice imo, especially if you intend to go FF in the New Year.

For landscape it's split between the 16-35 & 24-70.
 
For landscape and architecture look at a tilt shift lens, I think Nikon call them Perspective Control.

You can use tilt to shift the plane of focus to ensure a whole landscape is in focus from near to far without having to stop down to the point where diffraction starts making everything softer again.

You can use rise and fall and shift for your architectural shots to ensure you don't get converging verticals.

Be aware they are manual focus and take some getting used to but very useful and rewarding.
 
Many thanks, looks like a bit more homework is needed in trying to decide which lens would best suit my needs. Some food for thought in the recommendations given especially the tilt shift lens which to be honest i've never really looked into but from reading some info on its uses it is for a more advanced level than the one I am currently at.
