Lens suggestions for the 450D/550D?

A good all-round lens at a price in keeping with the price of the body.I can get the 450D plus 18-55 mm IS kit.550D would be body only so would need a decent all-round lens for it( the same one?)
Also a decent zoom plus a decent wide-angle, though I appreciate these would come later.Just want some recommendations to make a note of. Many thanks.

The 18-55mm IS kit lens is not a bad lens at all! A very good lens to start with. You could see if you could get a decent Sigma 17-70 or something similar used. I'd stick with the 18-55 IS and save up for what you really really want.

I have just bought a 500D and am getting a 50mm f1.8 II for xmas and that plus a couple old manual focus lenses will do me until I save up for either the 24-70 2.8L or 24-105 f4L

Depends what you fancy really. If you don't need the extra length then there are good offerings from sigma/tamron etc that are a step up from the kit lens at similar focal lengths without breaking the bank

Alternatively if you want to go a bit longer there are various good zoom options. I have a sigma 18-200 DC OS thats been sitting on my 400D for a while and serves as a nice walkabout lens (not too big at all). It's up for sale actually, though I know that at the min you are just looking, in the for sale section (sorry mods, not sure if I'm allowed to do that, but well )
