Lens weather sealing

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit confused about lens weather sealing.

I've just got a Nikon 50mm f1.8g, and on the Nikon website it says the following:

Weather-sealed metal lens mount.

Does this mean that it won't harm the lens if it rains unexpectedly before I get it in my bag or if water splashes a bit on it such as on a beach? Or is it saying that water won't be able to enter the camera body through the lens mounting?

Thanks everyone.

Needs a filter on the lens to provide full weather sealing. Nikon refer to the rear rubber gasket only
