Lenscoat for lenses?

Hi all,

My gear gets beat up and bashed a lot (in fact I had my 5D MKIII, 70-200 2.8 IS II and 2xTCIII fly off of a moving jeep not so long ago... different story but all is fine!). I was thinking of getting a lens coat for some my main wildlife lenses... other than camouflage, do they actually offer any sort of protection to the lens? Do you think they are worth it?

It probably wont offer any protection to the internals when it falls but will save the cosmetic damage and scrapes and scratches

hahaha - they are based near where i grew up in Cheshire! Well, they'll get my business if i get any! :)

+1 for outdoor photography gear. Good service, cheaper than lenscoat, and they stitch the edges- which I don't think the other 2 suppliers do IIRC.

Not according to the images on their website, and i have an older 70-200mm f/2.8 one which isnt stitched

Yes, I certainly think that they're worth it.

For my large prime lens I find the Lenscoat Hoody invaluble, far better than the Canon OEM mk1 and mk2 lens caps/covers. It's worth considering all manufacturers carefully, I really was at first drawn to the WWS versions as they were reversible and utilised thicker 3mm neoprene vs the 2mm (Lenscoat) & 2.7mm (Outdoor Photography Gear). The downside here was that they slip around more on the lens as the reversible side is not as grippy, so lenscoats have been fitted to my lenses and extenders instead.

I've found that with my WWS cover, and have actually considered the swap to lens coat because of it. Also the lack of a window for the switches that the LC has. Just the price puts me off.

Tend to agree with you there. I've swapped all mine over to LC, at a cost. Do find the window aggravating though but I think the quality is 2nd too none. WWS are good especially the price.
